Terry L. Schlegel, 84, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at his home in Reinholds, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on November 19, 1941, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Terry was a son of the late Floyd and Verna (Schweitzer) Schlegel, and the wife of Lana (Trostle) Schlegel.
A graduate of the Cocalico High School class of 1959, Terry furthered his education at the Harrisburg Barbering School, where he honed the skills that would define much of his professional life. He embarked on a career as a barber, serving the patients at Wernersville State Hospital until his retirement in 1999. Not content to fully retire from his craft, Terry continued to operate his own barber shop for approximately another decade into the early 2000s, offering his services with the same care and professionalism his clients had come to rely upon. Throughout his life, Terry was deeply involved in his community and church activities. He was a long-time member of Immanuel EC Church, faithfully serving as church treasurer until the congregation closed its doors. He also held membership at Peace United Church of Christ, where his engagement with church life remained steadfast. His leadership extended to the labor community as a past president of AFSCME Union Chapter 13. Moreover, he was an active member of the Cedardale Fishing Association, indulging his love for the outdoors and camaraderie. Terry’s vibrant interests and talents enrich his legacy further. He was a passionate stamp collector, an avid bowler, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. His community spirit was evident in his organization of bus trips to Atlantic City, fostering fellowship and enjoyment among friends and neighbors. Equally noteworthy were his contributions to youth sports and development; he proudly served as a Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts leader, coached football at Lincoln Park, and dedicated ten years as a baseball coach at Adamstown Park, impacting many young lives through sport and mentorship. Terry’s life was one of service, faith, and dedication—a reflection of a man who touched many lives through his work, community involvement, and unwavering commitment to family. He will be remembered with deep respect and affection by all who knew him.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Lana (Trostle) Schlegel; four cherished children: Terry (Jean) Schlegel Jr., John Schlegel, Dianna (Jim) Schlegel, and Dawn (Norman) England; seven grandchildren—Kameron, Daniel, Darren, Alexis, Jackson, Riley, and Gavin—a great-grandson, Walker, and two sisters, Susie and Sally. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Verna (Schweitzer) Schlegel, as well as siblings Jimmy and Thomas Schlegel.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc., located at 34-38 N.
