Obituary

On July 11, 2026, Robert "Bob" McGuire, 84, of Bowmansville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on July 2, 1942, to Harry and Marie (Taylor) McGuire. He graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia in 1960. In 1963, he joined the Philadelphia Fire Department, beginning a career that would become one of his greatest sources of pride. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Susan (Quinn), and together they shared nearly 55 wonderful years of marriage. They raised two daughters, Sue and Patty, and were blessed with three beloved grandsons, Danny, Ben, and Luke.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Susan, his daughters, Sue (Bob) Seruby and Patty (Chris) Seruby; his grandsons, Ben and Luke; his sister, Marie (Joseph, deceased) Lees; his brother, Tom (Carol, deceased) McGuire, and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was also the proud Godfather of Marie (Lees) Keppol, Tracy McGuire, and grandson, Danny McGuire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marie McGuire; his brothers, Harry (Geraldine) McGuire and Richard (Patricia, deceased) McGuire, and his beloved grandson, Danny McGuire.

Bob proudly served as a Philadelphia firefighter for nearly 30 years. Being in the fire department wasn’t just his career - it was a part of who he was. Even after retirement, he proudly wore that title, and some of his favorite conversations were the stories he shared from the firehouse. Although he worked a variety of side jobs throughout his life, none meant more to him than his years with the Philadelphia Fire Department. Bob lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, humility, and quiet dedication.

Bob was a lifelong Philly sports fan. The Eagles and Phillies gave him plenty of reasons to celebrate - and just as many reasons to shake his head in disbelief, saying, “Maybe next year” - but his loyalty never faltered. Above all else, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an extraordinary grandfather. He adored his wife and daughters, and his three grandsons were truly the light of his life. He wasn’t just Grandpop to Ben and Luke, or Bob, as Danny called him. He was their biggest fan, their teacher, their storyteller, and the one they knew they could always count on. It brings us peace to imagine the long-awaited, hug-filled reunion between Bob and his beloved Danny.

Bob touched countless lives with his warmth, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor. His gentle sarcasm could make anyone smile, and he had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and at ease. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support knew no bounds. He was an exceptional man—a role model, a teacher, and a steady source of strength for his family and friends. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his love, laughter, and the example he set will live on in everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

Your shift is over now. Rest easy. We'll take it from here.
