Gary L.
Eckenrod
October 19, 1955 – June 2, 2026
Gary L. Eckenrod, 70, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Born on October 19, 1955, Gary was the eldest of five children of the late Birdetta E. Taylor, and the companion of Debra L. Gerhart, with whom he shared six years of happiness and memories together.
Gary was a graduate of Warwick High School, class of 1973. Gary found great joy in hunting and took pleasure in quietly watching deer from the kitchen window—a peaceful pastime that connected him deeply to nature. His passion for cars was well-known; he amassed a vast collection of 1/18 scale model cars, a testament to his keen eye for detail and love of automotive craftsmanship. Driving fast brought him excitement and a sense of freedom that he treasured. In addition to his hobbies, Gary cherished the time spent with Deb and her family, whom he embraced wholeheartedly as his own. Moments shared in target shooting with his nephew Christopher Knotwill were highlights that reflected the bond and joy he found in family connections. Known for his happy-go-lucky spirit and kindhearted nature, Gary was the embodiment of generosity and loyalty. Those who knew him well understood that he would do anything for anyone, offering his support and friendship unconditionally. His generous heart left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Along with his companion, Debra, Gary is survived by four siblings, Kim, Glenn, Rick, & Peg; his nephew Christopher; three stepchildren, Tracey, Kelly, and Randy; as well as step-grandchildren Ethan and Catie, and step-great-grandchildren Skylar, Carly, and Landon.
