Dorothy M. “Dot” Martzall, 96, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at Ephrata Manor. Born on May 2, 1930, in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, Dot was the daughter of the late Paul A. and Anna (Ziegler) Horst, and the loving wife of Harlan F. Martzall for 77 years.
Dorothy worked as a school bus driver for Wilson School District for 25 years. She was a cherished member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Denver, where she was a life member and a Sunday School teacher. Her commitment to nurturing and guiding young minds extended beyond the church walls as she served as a Cub Scout leader for Adamstown, always eager to support and help the youngsters in the area. Her passion for community service left an indelible mark on many. A lover of nature and beauty, Dot found great joy in flower gardening at her home, cultivating a lasting connection to the earth and its seasons. Her adventurous spirit blossomed further in retirement when she embarked on extensive travels, experiencing all 50 states. For 21 years, she spent winters in Arizona traveling with her motor home, embracing new places and friendships with enthusiasm. Dot’s life exemplified dedication, faith, and generosity. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know her.
Dorothy survived by her loving husband, Harlan F. Martzall, and their four children: Susan M. Ellefson and her husband Howard “Smokey” of Reinholds, Linda D. Shuker and her husband Richard “Rich” Jr. of Mohnton, Julie A. Shade and her husband Douglas “Doug” of Reinholds, and David P. Martzall with his wife Barbara “Bobbie” of Adamstown. Her legacy continues through 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul A. and Anna (Ziegler) Horst, and her beloved son, Glenn H. Martzall. Their memories remain deeply ingrained in the story of her life.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre; 34-38 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown, PA 17567. Dorothy’s final resting place will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Adamstown.
