V. “Chet” Sweigart, 90, of
305 E. Fulton St.
, Ephrata,
Lancaster
County
, died Thursday, Dec. 16 at home under the care of Hospice of
Lancaster County.
Born May 2, 1914, in E. Cocalico Twp., Lancaster
County, he was a son of the late Charles F. and
Jennie (Steffy) Sweigart, and was the husband of Myrtle
M. (Burkhart) Sweigart for 61 years on January 23, 2004.
A member of
Trinity
Evangelical
Lutheran
Church
, Ephrata, he was a 1932 granduate of
Ephrata
High School
.
An army staff sergeant he fought with 275th
Armored Field Artillery Battalion at the
Battle
of the Bulge during World War II.
Chet retired after over 50 years at the former Ephrata
Shoe Co.
He was a past adjutant of the Ephrata VFW and was a
woodworker & enjoyed hunting & fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Brian C.
Sweigart, Ephrata; 2 daughters, Gail L. (David) Trate,
Denver
; Penny D. (Douglas) Stick, Reinholds; 5 grandchildren,
Melissa Gockley, Tami Dube’, Theresa Clair, Adam Stick &
Kozette Zimmerman and 4 great-grandchildren.
