Earl Redcay, Jr., aged 84, of Stevens, died Saturday, September 5, 2009, in the Ephrata Community Hospital where he was a patient since Thursday.  He was a guest at Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron, for the past 14 months.  Born in Adamstown, a son of the late Earl M., Sr., and Katie (Snyder) Redcay, he was the husband of Viola B. (Kessler) Redcay for 26 years.  A self-employed Certified Public Accountant, he held professional associations with the American Institute of CPA's and the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA's.  Graduating in 1942 from Shillington High School, he was the treasurer of their association. He graduated in 1950 from Temple University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business.  A Captain in the Army ROTC at Temple, he was a staff sergeant in during World War II serving in Europe with the 275th AFA Battalion.  Service awards include the European Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, WWII victory and army occupation medals, unit citation for the "Belgian Fourragere" awarded by Charles, Prince of Belgium, given for the result of action in the St. Vith area during the Battle of the Bulge.  A member of the Cocalico Post 3376 VFW, he was a charter member and president of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge; president and past chairman of the board of the 275th Armored F A Battalion Association.  Earl was a member of St. John's UCC, Denver, where he sang in the choir and served on various committees including past chairman of the Foundation Fund Committee.  A 32nd degree mason belonging to Richmond Lodge 230, he was past Worshipful Master of Bringhurst Lodge 686 F& AM, Philadelphia; a member of the LuLu Shrine Temple, where he received his 50 year pin; Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Lancaster County Shrine Club member.  Also surviving is a daughter, Susan (Mark) Olcott, Ephrata; son, David (Linda Griffe) Redcay, Ephrata; sister, Catherine (widow of Eugene) Trostle, Reinholds; grandchildren, Justin, Melissa, Jacob and Tiffany; and great-grandchildren, Justin Jr. and Hannah.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at 10:00 AM from St. John's United Church of Christ, South 4th Street & Lancaster Avenue, Denver PA 17517, with his pastor, The Reverend David R. Brumbaugh, officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, PA. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home with Masonic services at 8:30 PM; there will be NO viewing at the church on Wednesday.  Kindly omit flowers and remember Earl with contributions to his church.
