William C. Grote

William C. “Bill” Grote, 80, Bowmansville, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, at 7:41 AM in his residence under the care of his family and Hospice of Lancaster County.  Born in Spring Township, Berks County, a son of the late William J. and Helen (Kissling) Grote, he was the husband of Mary Jane (Matz) Grote for 56 years.  He attended Shillington High School, graduated from Wyomissing Poly-Technic Institute and was a Navy veteran of World War II.  A member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, he was a former active member of Allegheny United Church of Christ, Alleghenyville, having served on church council.  Following years in the building industry, Bill founded his own firm in 1967, Grote Construction, Inc., Bowmansville, which he operated until retiring in 1992, it is currently operated by his son, Scott.  An avid golfer, he enjoyed bowling and tennis and was an amazing craftsman and woodworker.  Also surviving are daughter, Lynne G., wife of John R. Breil, York, PA; and Heidi M. wife of Gregory C. Gable, Stevens, PA; a son, Scott W., husband of Amy L. (Moore) Grote, Mohnton, PA; grandchildren, James and Patrick Tully and Layne Gable; and sisters, Dory Homan, Mohnton, PA; and Elizabeth Clausing, Bramsche, Germany.

A memorial celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2008, at 2:00 PM from Peace U.C.C., 37 East Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517, with his pastor, The Rev. William E. Hoch, officiating.  The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.  There will be no viewing.  Kindly omit flowers.  Contributions to Hospice of Lancaster County, Box 4125 , Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or his church at the above address.  Guidance provided by Good Funeral Home & Cremation Centre of Reamstown.
